Ministry Spotlight
Joan Myers began singing professionally in 1982 as
member of her church choir Holiness Christian Church and in 1986 she was
invited to join the gospel group "The Love Singers." Myers toured with
the group extensively laying a foundation for her musical career
locally. Myers' popularity and professionalism grew rapidly. With ambition to become a Certified Charted Accountant, Myers graduated from Durham Business College with a Diploma in Accounting and was also awarded the Noel Hylton Challenge Cup for Accounting. She successfully completed the Association of Accountants and Technicians examination and pursued further studies for the Association of Certified and Public Accountants. In 1996, Joan migrated to the United States to pursue her academic studies at the City University of New York. She was encouraged by Reggae Legend Freddie McGregor to develop her talent. Her brother Benjy Myaz who is also her producer convinced Joan to pursue a solo singing career to record her own album. In 2000 Joan returned to Jamaica and began to record her solo album "Wanna Be Urs" at Freddie McGregor's his Big Ship Studio. Myers' solo career took off immediately. Joan has an engaging personality, the charisma and talent that attracts people to her. She is self- assured in her unshakable faith and the source of her life, Jesus Christ. Myers believes that God has not called her to a "hall of fame", but as a strong woman to make Him famous amongst the feeble." She desires to be who God wants her to be and make herself available to be used by Him. Joan's ambition is "to raise the local gospel music to higher level. |
